For the first time veteran Prabhu will be competing with his actor son Vikram Prabhu at the box office. While Vikram Prabhu’s action entertainer Thuppaki Munai is all set to hit the screens on December 14, Prabhu’s Johnny, a remake of Johnny Gaddaar, where he essays a pivotal role, is releasing on the same day (December14).
Thuppaki Munai, bankrolled by Kalaipuli Thanu, has Hansika Motwani romancing Vikram Prabhu and is directed by Dinesh Selvaraj, who had his tutelage under Mani Ratnam.
“Vikram Prabhu essays Birla Bose, a straight forward police officer and an encounter specialist in TM. The film is about how Bose goes into investigative mode on a case that turns his life chaotic. The film speaks about a social problem, which is relevant in today’s time. Vikram Prabhu has also experimented with his looks and sports a 45 year old look in certain segments. The movie has been also given clean U by Censors,” says Dinesh.
On the other hand, Johnny which is an action heist drama has Prashanth and Sanchitha Shetty as the lead pair with Prabhu reportedly essaying a gangster. The movie directed by Vetriselvan is being produced by Prashanth’s dad and actor Thyagarajan.
“Prabhu will be playing a never seen before avatar. We could not think of anyone else except Prabhu for the particular role, when we decided to make this film. Like his legendary dad Sivaji Ganesan, Prabhu is known for his punctuality. For a 6am call sheet, he would be there at 5.45 am ready with makeup. He is the biggest strength of the film,” Thyagarajan asserts.
