Karthi is a better actor than me: Suriya

“Karthi is more talented and a better actor than me. I might have entered films before him, but he is the one who surrenders himself completely to the characters he portrays. He always thinks about cinema and acts for the welfare of the film industry. He deserves to be celebrated more, and that day is not far off,” said Suriya about his younger brother.

The actor, who recently won the National Award for Best Actor was speaking at the audio launch of Karthi's upcoming film Viruman. The most popular siblings in Tamil cinema, sporting traditional silk dhotis and silk shirts, won hearts with their witty speeches at the event in Madurai recently.

Talking of his connection with Madurai, Karthi said, “My debut flick Paruthiveeran, was shot in Madurai, I was clean shaven. I had just returned from the US then. People wondered how Ameer Sir, the director, would convert me into the rustic youth I play in the film. Ameer Sir had told me that to play the lead, I needed to transform into someone who would bash up ten people simultaneously. He converted me into Paruthiveeran and the film received tremendous response.”

Noting that he was meeting his Madurai fans after a long time, Karthi said your (fans’) love and appreciation motivates me even today to better myself.” He said he likes to pick up rural scripts because family values and feelings are deep-rooted in villages. “And Madurai is my first choice when it comes to rural backdrop - be it Komban or Viruman,” he added.

The rural entertainer directed by Muthaiah is bankrolled by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment. Aditi Shankar, daughter of ace filmmaker Shankar, debuts as the leading lady.
