Maayavan will be an eye-opener: CV Kumar

CV Kumar speaks to DC about the experience of making the film, and how nervous he is about the building anticipations for his film.

New-age producer CV Kumar, known for bankrolling quirky scripts, is gearing up for his maiden directorial venture Mayaavan. The serial murder mystery has Sundeep Kishan, Lavanya Tripathi, Jackie Shroff and Daniel Balaji in the lead roles. CV Kumar speaks to DC about the experience of making the film, and how nervous he is about the building anticipations for his film.

“Thanks to my friend Nalan Kumaraswamy who initiated me to try my hands in direction. He has also written the screenplay along with me. Maayavan is inspired from few movies as well as real-life incidents, which I read in newspapers. When the motive behind the crimes is revealed, one would wonder if such things exist. I hope I have done justice to the film. Still, there are butterflies in the stomach!” (laughs)

Talking about Sundeep, he says, “He plays an investigative cop, Kumaran, and he fit the bill in terms of looks. He has done a good job.”

Kumar also vouches that his heroine is not the regular one that you often see in commercial films. “Lavanya Tripathi plays Adhirai, a physiatrist, one of the driving forces in the story.”

Heaping praises on Jackie Shroff, he says, “I needed a charismatic villain in that age group and I could not think of anyone else other than Jackie. When I approached him, he did ask for a lot of details and clarifications about the script. But he is a powerhouse performer.”

Daniel Balaji, another villain, who portrays the role of a motivational speaker has given a menacing act, Kumar reveals.

The movie has been shot in more than 70 locations iat roads, airport, inside a flight, mid-sea, underwater, besides using huge sets. Extensive CG work also forms a part of the movie. “Ghibran’s BGM wasextraordinary and his RR has given life to my vision,” the Pizza producer discloses. But he prefers producing films to directing them, since the former involves more challenges than the latter, he quips.

On a signing note he says, “Maayavan will be an eye-opener which puts forth a question — ‘where are we, human beings, heading towards?”
