K'town's bold new entrant

Though the title has political connotations, Inba says it is not a political satire, but a comic entertainer.

Tollywood actress Reshma Rathore is foraying into Tamil with a movie Adhagapattadhu Magajanangale, where national award winner Thambi Ramaiah’s son, Umapathy, debuts as the hero. Inbashekar, who has wielded the megaphone for several TV soaps, is entering the silver screen. Though the title has political connotations, Inba says it is not a political satire, but a comic entertainer.

“Yes, the title is a common phrase, which is used during political meetings, to address the gathering. And it is also a famous line spoken by ace comedian Goundamani sir. But, my film Adhagapattadhu…, is apolitical and is about an ordinary guy who is a guitarist, played by Umapathy, and his romance with a girl (Reshma Rathore) from an affluent family. The problem he faces is narrated with twists and turns in a hilarious manner,” says Inba.

On choosing Umapathy, he says, “I wanted someone who looks simple and ordinary. I auditioned many and Umapathy was one of them. I felt he had the right look. He is also a trained ballet dancer and has a good knowledge in music. Only after I chose him, I came to know that he is actor Thambi Ramaiah’s son. And people who watched the sneak peek complimented him saying that Umapathy never looked like a debut hero and was so confident.”

Heaping praises on Reshma, Inba reveals, “Despite the language barrier, she would get her lines the previous day itself and learn them by heart. Without prompting, she would get her dialogues perfectly. She was very focused.”
Imman’s soul stirring music is said to be the highlight of the film with the single track Ennadi Nee Yennai Ippadi already crossing 17 lakh views.
