It's a one man show for Riaz!
Tamil cinema has been undergoing a sea change in recent times, with young filmmakers exploring out-of-the-box experimental themes. Ace actor Riyaz Khan, who has worked in more than 300 films in the south as well as in Hindi, is attempting a risky formula with Mattroruvan. The movie has only one character, and Riyaz essays it. Majo Mathew directs this psychological thriller.
Talking about his experiences, Riyaz says, “The movie is shot extensively on a tea estate. Other than me, my shadow plays a crucial role in the film. Mattroruvan is about dreams and reality. My character is in a confused state, between hallucination and reality. The toughest part was the action scene. There’s a 15-minute action sequence where I have to fight with my own shadow. And imagine, there’s no one in front of me! The director wanted it live without any CG work. That was very challenging.”
A dog and an elephant are also part of the narrative. The Censors have given a clean ‘U’ Certificate to this film, made in three languages — Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. The movie is produced by actor-filmmaker Velmurugan along with his friends.
