Lost crucial lip-lock scene because of Arun Vijay: Magizh Tirumeni
A lip lock scene of Arun Vijay with former Miss India Tanya Hope that has been chopped by censors has become the talk of the town. Tanya is debuting with the thriller film Thadam. Speaking at the Thadam promo meet, Arun Vijay said, “Magizh is one of the important filmmakers in my career who gave me an identity with TT. We are teaming up again for the crime thriller Thadam with a fascinating subject. I am essaying a dual role for the first time and there’s a justification in me doing both the roles.”
Clarifying on his part side about the deep smooching scene, he says, “My director easily convinces me with the way he presents things. One day, he told me a lip-lock is required in one of the crucial segments in the romantic portions. I refused to do it saying ‘I won’t do it’. But he insisted that I do the scene and being a performer he asked me to take it in the right perspective. He also said he would talk to my wife Aarti. Somehow, I did the scene, but I am facing its repercussions even now.”
Magizh intervened to say, “In fact, I lost the vital scene because members of the censor board had a doubt whether Arun Vijay had bitten Tanya’s lip. They were unwilling to buy my explanations that he didn’t (as I was the one who canned the scene) and they finally cut it from the film.”
Delving more into the subject he said, “I have tried to go beyond genre notations.
It has multiple layers. It talks how parents affect us, an individual’s relationship with the society, an individual’s relationship with law and individual’s ways of handling his own inadequacies. It won’t be heavy or arty kind. I have presented it in a commercial format.”
He says he took a leaf out of real life incident and adapted it to the big screen. “While I was doing Meaghamann with Arya, I witnessed an unbelievable event.
As the saying goes, ‘Truth is stranger than fiction’ and I was inspired by this incident for making Thadam. In a crime scene the police would try to unravel the mystery with their evidence. But in this film, each time the cops come across evidence, it would mislead them and add to their confusion.”
On the three heroines, he asserts, “I am introducing Tanya Hope and Smrithi Venkat besides Vidya Pradeep. They are not eye candy and each one has a key role to play. Soniya Agarwal makes a 10-minute special appearance, which is very imperative to the script.”
On the dual role of Arun Vijay, he says, “Even the double role was not fictionalised account, the incident happened to two different persons who are identical, but they are not twins. So, I thought I can as well make Arun to essay both the roles. He has pulled it off extraordinarily well. Thadam will be a milestone in Arun Vijay’s career because it has the potential to explore the nuances and talent of the actor.”
