Anil Kumble appreciates Rajiv Menon's musical
Rajiv Menon’s most anticipated musical Sarvam Thaalamayam in AR Rahman’s composition will be premiered at the 31st Tokyo International Film Festival before release in Indian theatres. The movie, inspired from incidents in the life of a few musicians, has GV Prakashkumar and Aparna Balamurali of 8 Thottakkal fame in it.
The film is about a gifted young musician from a unprivileged family who wishes to learn the art of mridangam from the a top maestro and faces rejection from the Carnatic music community as well as from his family.
GVP, who dons the role of an aspiring percussionist, learnt the fundamentals of playing the mridangam from Umayalpuram Sivaraman. Sources say ARR has given a Broadway musical treatment to ST. Also, it is for the first time that Rahman has constructed the ‘background score’ for a movie. The scenes were shot afterwards to sync with the BGM.
The latest we hear is that ace Indian cricketer Anil Kumble, who is a close buddy of Rajiv Menon, had watched Sarvam Thaalamayam and had words of appreciation for its making and content.
