Thodari could have been better: Keerthy Suresh
Keerthy Suresh, who started off as child artiste in Malayalam films, eventually made her entry in Kollywood with director Vijay’s Idhu Enna Maayam. Even though the film didn’t earn her much recognition, she went on to become one of the industry’s hottest new prospects.
Keerthy, who plays Dr. Kavya in Sivakarthikeyan starrer Remo next, is rather nervous ahead of the film’s release.
“Even though Bakkiyaraj is a new director, he ensured that I had as much screen space as the hero. My character is not extraordinary or anything though.. you can find a ‘Kavya’ in every household. The specialty of the character is that people of her age will be able to relate to her situation and connect with it. After the promotions, there are huge expectations,” she says.
Her latest, Thodari, has been subject to mixed reviews from the critics — “I signed the film mainly for the innocent character I played. I had to act like a Malayali who didn’t know Tamil — and it was difficult. So I had to transcribe my lines in Malayalam. But I think the movie could have been better in other aspects.”
In a short period, Keerthy has managed to strike the right chord in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam industries — “I thought it would be difficult to manage in three languages. But, I am lucky as Telugu and Tamil are quite similar. However, I cannot improvise in Telugu films as I don’t know the language,” she confesses.
Keerthy also claims that she is not much of a planner — “I don’t think about my past or future. I don’t know if I am going to become an A-lister tomorrow.”
The Rajini Murugan actress also plays a college girl in her upcoming film, Bairavaa, with Vijay. “I can’t divulge information about the film, except that working with Vijay sir was fun. I have admired his screen presence and I can’t think of him as a co-star. It’s still a fan moment for me!”
