Abhimanyu's stint as a gang leader
Bollywood actor Abhimanyu Singh has got the menacing looks to pull off a villain role with ease. His Tamil films, Velayudham, Thalaivaa and 10 Enradhukulla, are some examples. The actor is now gearing up for the release of Sridevi’s Mom and Karthi-starrer Dheeran Adhigaaram Ondru.
Speaking to DC about how he was chosen for the film, he says, “Director Vinoth has etched an intense and performance-oriented role for me. It requires me to show varied emotions and Vinoth compares my character to a wolf. I was asked to behave like one on the sets and had to bring out the emotion through body language, gesture and dialogues.”
Dheeran… is a story based on real-life incidents. “15 years back, there were a gang of criminals, who committed robbery and murder. They couldn’t be traced and are quick enough to change their jobs so they wouldn’t get caught. Dheeran (played by Karthi) investigates the issue and after seven years of investigation, he finds a loophole. I play Ohma, a gang leader and we have a rich history. He will fight till his death, but will never surrender. It wasn’t an easy character to portray,” he reveals.
Abhimanyu is all praises for director Vinoth and his co-star Karthi. “Vinoth is innovative and he gives the right kind of freedom for an actor. Karthi is extremely committed and he has given his 100 per cent for the film. So, when we come on sets, it is only work that we keep thinking about,” he shares.
The Velayudham actor is seen as a small-time drug peddler in Mom, which hit the screens today. “I play a Jat from Haryana and working alongside Sridevi was a rewarding experience,” he says as he bids adieu.
