Kabbadi champ Raja debuts as a hero
Several sports personalities in the past have donned the greasepaint and the latest one to join the bandwagon is kabbadi champion Raja from Tirunelveli — with a movie titled Aruva Sandai. Director Aadhirajan, who made Silandhi, will be wielding the megaphone. The film is based on honour killing and has been inspired by a real-life incident.
Talking to DC, Aadhirajan says, “The movie is about the romantic story of a ruffian with the backdrop of honour killing. The film will hail kabbadi and we will be filming real matches for the movie. Though, there have been films based on the sport earlier, the main advantage is that here, a real-life kabbadi player is portraying the hero!”
He adds, “The film definitely throws more light on the game and motivates youngsters to consider it a serious career option.” The story is about lovers belonging to two different castes and how they become victims of honour killing. “We are yet to finalise the female lead. I am looking for someone who is homely with girl-next-door looks. But, I have brought on board a strong supporting cast, including national award winner Saranya Ponvannan (whom you will see in a totally different dimension), Aadukalam Naren who plays the villain, and comedians Ganja Karuppu, Imman Annachi, Singamuthu, etc.” The film marks music composer Dharan’s 25th movie.
