Indian filmmakers taking inspiration from Hollywood or Korean movies is not something new. Even leading directors in the industry rip off ideas from foreign films — inspite of there being a very thin line between inspiration and plagiarism. It might have taken time to figure out such acts earlier... but now the copycat is detected instantly with the advent of technology.
Recently, Sivakarthikeyan’s first-look poster of Velaikkaran had people
talking about how it has been lifted from Michael Douglas’ Falling Down and Tim Allen’s Joe Somebody. Netizens started creating memes around the issue and it went viral. But Sivakarthikeyan’s fans were unfazed as they hailed their matinee idol. Directed by Mohan Raja, Velaikkaran has Nayanthara romancing Siva and Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil in a crucial role. Touted to be a commercial entertainer, the film also has a strong social message on food adulteration. The music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
