Veteran actress GV Sharada returns with a Majid Majidi film

She will be back on screen after a 15-year-long hiatus.

Looks like Majid Majidi, the international auteur has a penchant for south Indian talents for his upcoming film, Beyond The Clouds. After Malayalam actress Malavika Mohanan was roped in to play the female lead, he has brought on board yet another south veteran, GV Sharada, for a crucial role. She hails from from the famous family of Gubbi Veeranna, pioneer of South India’s theatre movement, who was also an actor.

Based on human relationships, the movie, which has Ishaan Khatter, as the male lead, delves into the nuances of an adorable brother-sister relationship that leads to many more interesting situational phases — a style which the Iranian filmmaker is well known for. Maestro A.R. Rahman will be scoring the music.

Sharada started her career with many theatre acts and moved onto doing nearly 60 films in her career. She was well known for being able to perform lengthy dialogues and intense emotional scenes with incredible amount of ease.
Speaking about GV Sharada’s casting, Zee Studios and Eyecandy Films reveal,

“She went through the entire audition process just like anyone else would — meetings, screen tests etc. She was even asked to lose some weight, which she took with so much grace. It was amazing to see such a seasoned actress and someone in her 70s have her level of enthusiasm. We are delighted to have her as part of our film’s cast, which is now a wonderful blend of young and ace talents.”

Sharada, who returns to acting after a long hiatus of 15 years, is thrilled. “I am happy to make a comeback for a director like Majid Majidi, whom I consider a cinematic god, and working in a beautiful script like Beyond The Clouds. I am looking forward to working with this prolific team,” the actress signs off.
