I remember dad pleading in front of film lab to release his movie: Vishal
Chennai: With elections to the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) scheduled for April 2, all contesting teams are indulging in verbal duels and lashing out at each other.
Actor Vishal, secretary to Nadigar Sangam who is in news for many reasons - both good and bad, revealed why he choose to contest in one more association, for the president's post in TFPC election. He was introducing his team recently. He said, “There were many hurdles which I had to cross including a court case against me for contesting in the TFPC elections, but everything was quashed. Prakash Raj and Gautham Menon are standing for vice-president, Gnanavel Raja and Mysshkin for secretary, SR Prabhu as treasurer. Nothing good has happened to producers for the last 10 years. I am entering the fray only to comfort and benefit them. Unless they are well, the film industry will not be healthy”.
The Kaththi Sandai actor also asserted that whatever the promises they made while taking over Nadigar Sangam have been fulfilled. “The only thing pending is the construction of the Nadigar Sangam building which is also starting next month. We are waiting to complete the formalities.”
He adds, “Similarly, our team will honor all promises we make for the TFPC elections within one year, failing which, all of us will resign and step down from our posts.”
Disclosing what affected him the most he said, “When I was in school I saw my father GK Reddy, who is also a producer, literally begging in front of a film lab in the city to help him release one of his production ventures. No producer should suffer like this. This is one of the main reasons I am contesting in the TFPC elections”.
Their election manifesto includes providing a piece of land for all producers, eradicating piracy, helping producers who are out of circulation to make films, increasing pensions, gifting cash in advance for Deepavali and Pongal among others.
