Sequels being the order of the day, the 1973 blockbuster comedy film Kasi Yaathirai, directed by ace SP Muthuraman, will have a part 2 soon. The story penned by popular writer VC Guhanathan had top comedians like Suruli Rajan, Thengai Srinivasan, Manorama, Cho, VK Ramasamy and several others of that era in the lead. Manons Cine Combines, the FMS distributors of top stars’ movies, have bought the rights from VC Guhanathan, who has completed 50 years in Indian cinema, penning over 250 scripts in various language films.

Sharing his happiness over his story Kasi Yathiri being remade, he said, “There are many talented writers in Tamil cinema who are underutilised till today. Starting with Kasi Yathirai, I hope, it will pave way for others as well.”

Director and scriptwriter Pugazhmani has been brought on board to wield the megaphone. Talks are on with present crop of humour specialists, says Pugazh. Sources say Kovai Sarala might be roped in place of late Aachi Manorama.
