Dhanush in the remake of Barfi?

Actor could reprise Ranbir Kapoor's challenging role in the Tamil version of flick.

If close sources are to be believed, Dhanush, who was in negotiations to buy the remake rights of Bollywood super-hit movie Barfi, has sealed the deal recently! Barfi, directed by Anurag Basu featured Ranbir Kapoor as a hearing and speech-impaired man with Priyanka Chopra essaying the role of an autistic woman, and with Ileana in a supporting role. It was India’s official entry to the Oscars in 2012 in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Dhanush, in an earlier interview said that he loved everything about the film and was all praise for Ranbir Kapoor’s performance. He also evinced interest in remaking it in the south, since human emotions are the same everywhere and the subject would work in Tamil as well.

Having said that, the source adds, “The national award winner is likely to reprise the role of Ranbir in the Tamil version; after all the Aadukalam actor is game for challenging characters.”

Unconfirmed sources say Dhanush has titled the K’town version as Duet. Duet also happens to be the title of late K.Balachander’s 1994 film which starred Prabhu, Meenakshi Seshadhri, Ramesh Arvind and Prakash Raj in the lead.

Dhanush is presently working on his maiden Hollywood flick, Vetri Maaran’s Vada Chennai and Gautham Menon’s Enai Noki Paayum Thota. The actor could not be reached for comment.
