Children of Heaven to be remade as Akka Kuruvi

Ace Malayalam lensman Utpal V Nayanar shot the movie in multi camera setup for 55 days in the hilly terrain of Poombarai in Kodaikanal.

Director Saamy, who made films with controversial themes like Mirugam and Sindhu Samaveli, is back after a long hiatus with an interesting movie. It is the official remake of the acclaimed Iranian movie Children of Heaven directed by ace Majid Majidi. Titled Akka Kuruvi in Tamil, Madurai Muthu Movies and Kanavu Thozhirchalai who have bought the south Indian language remake rights, are bankrolling it in Tamil and Telugu.

Speaking about the film, Saamy says, “The movie received critical reception and garnered attention on several international circuit deals with a brother and sister and their adventures over a lost pair of shoes. I auditioned close to 200 children for the lead roles of an 11-year-old brother and 7-year-old sister. Finally, I zeroed in on Daavia for the girl character and Maahin for the boy. Popular classical dancer Thara Jagadhamba plays the mother role and Senthilkumar will be seen as their dad. And of course, a pair of shoes plays the central character.”
