Actor and filmmaker Parthiban, a star speaker at events, is known for his quick wit. His wisecrack at the 100th day celebrations of 96, the Vijay Sethupathi-Trisha starrer on Monday was true to form.
After distributing the commemorative shields to VSP and Trisha, Parthiban said, “Throughout the movie, the lead pair Ram (Sethupathi) and Jaanu (Trisha) kept the audience, including me, waiting to see if they’ll hug at least once but they never did. So, I request both Trisha and Sethupathi to come to the stage and hug once.”
Taking the invitation in their stride, the onscreen couple obliged and hugged each other amid big applause from the huge gathering. ‘Makkal Selvan’ VSP was said to have joked - “This is the new climax to the film.”
The nostalgic romantic drama, 96 is about the reunion of 10th grade school students of ’96 and revolves around Ram and Jaanu who fell in love with each other then but never got married.
The film directed by debutant Prem Kumar was critically acclaimed and completed 100 days of theatrical run, which is a rarity in the present scenario. The movie was telecast on television within 35 days of its release and even so was a theatrical success. The lead pair’s intense performance was the film’s highlight.
