Celebration time at the AR Rahman household

Ushering in the big 50, friends and family of A.R. Rahman are determined to make it a special day indeed for the Mozart of Madras.

Musical genius AR Rahman has always had an air of wisdom about him. A man of few words, music is the medium of expression through which his inherent charm and magnanimity has found voice. Now as he turns 50, he still burns bright, as he continues to mesmerise audiences with his timeless tunes that leave behind magical memories.

The unassuming man that he is, this time around, Rahman is celebrating his milestone 50th birthday (January 6) with his fans. The double Oscar winner, who rarely interacts with his fans, especially on social media platforms due to his hectic work schedules, officially announced on his Twitter page recently, “Join me on Facebook Live on the 6th of January 2017, between 4.30 pm - 5 pm IST.” (sic)

Meanwhile, the global icon’s younger sister, Isshrath Quadhre, has dedicated her ‘Mash Up cover’ version of AR Rahman’s songs to her brother. Speaking to DC in an exclusive, Isshrath says, “I wanted to do something different for my brother for his landmark birthday, when this idea struck. I took three of his chartbuster songs, from Bombay, Rangeela ( Pyar Ye…) and Minsara Kanavu (Vennilave…) and rearranged them, retaining the same tune, and have sung them myself. I am dedicating the threeminute video cover version to my brother on his special day.”

The video song will be aired on several television channels today. Though Isshrath was not ready to give away details about the birthday celebrations, our sources have spilled the beans, and reveal that family members have arranged a surprise cake cutting as the clock strikes 12! They also add that a theme house party has been planned and there will be custom-made costumes
for all.

In the morning, Rahman may meet a few of his ardent fans and interact with them. As usual, delicious homemade biryani will be sent in dabbas to all their relatives and family friends. The buzz is that the Academy winner is throwing a party (get-together) for all the producers, filmmakers and singers with whom he has worked. We too wish the legend a happy birthday!
