Take up welfare activities, Kamal Hassan tells fans at meeting

He has also been on the learning curve by meeting Kerala Chief Minister Pinnarayi Vijayan and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

CHENNAI: For the first time after announcing his intent to take a plunge into electoral politics, actor-activist Kamal Hassan on Wednesday held marathon meeting with his fans from across Tamil Nadu and asked them to “take up” more welfare activities in the state.

Kamal, the legendary Tamil actor is understood to have discussed his political plans with his fans during the meeting at his Alwarpet residence as he braces himself to launch a political party by the end of this year or early next year.

The meeting with fans assumes significance as it came amidst rumours that Kamal will make a formal announcement of his political plunge on November 7, when he turns 63. However, sources close to the film star said he has “no plans” to launch his outfit on his birthday.

Kamal, who has been quite active on Twitter since the beginning of this year, had shot to political limelight when he took on the AIADMK government on corruption and even asked people to send complaints or proof of graft in departments to ministers concerned.

And he has also been on the “learning curve” by meeting Kerala Chief Minister Pinnarayi Vijayan and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

“We discussed what should be done for his birthday, which is on November 7. We discussed only the welfare activities being carried out by the fans,” Thangavelu, a senior member of the Kamal Haasan Welfare Club, told reporters after the meeting.

“We only do welfare activities and Kamal stressed that we take up more of such initiatives,” he said.

During the course of his interviews with various publications and television channels, Kamal had maintained that his colour was “certainly not saffron.”
