Sona aims for meaningful roles

Actress, who resolved not to do any more raunchy songs, tells DC that she was jobless for more than a year but remained stubborn about her decision.

After a long gap, actress Sona, known for her glamourous dance performances, is back in Tamil with a couple of movies, Naan Yaar Endru Nee Sol and Bramma.com. The actress, who resolved not to do any more raunchy songs, tells DC that she was jobless for more than a year but remained stubborn about her decision. “At one point of time, I was stressed about not doing films. But, I used that time to do shows and production work. Thankfully, I started getting offers from Tamil and M’town,” she says.

“I play a role with grey shades in Naan Yaar Endru Nee Sol (directed by AM Bhaskar). It is a crime thriller and I play the heroine’s mother. I get killed in a nasty incident and my role has great scope for acting.” Newcomers Keerthi Dharan and Surekha play the lead roles.

She has also attempted comedy in Nakul-starrer Bramma.com. “I share screen space with Naan Kadavul Rajhendran and we both have great roles to provide the necessary laughs.”

“Though I am paired opposite Imman Annachi in July 16, I have lot of combination scenes with actors Senthil sir and Bhagyaraj sir. I thoroughly enjoyed my stint in the movie,” Sona quips.

The actress, who is equally busy with Malayalam movies, says that she has been receiving diverse roles. “My role in Priyadarshan sir’s Oppam was well received. Now, I have a meaty and interesting character of a quirky dance master in Prithiviraj movie, My Story. The film is directed by Roshni Dinaker and we had a month long schedule in the locales of Portugal. The film has a period set-up.”
Other films in her kitty include a film with Vincent Selva, Cinema Paradise, Un Kaadhal Irundhal and two other untitled Malayalam films.
