Sundeep Kishan says no to adult films

The actor-turned-producer is currently busy with the Tollywood version of his Tamil supernatural thriller, Kannadi.

Sundeep Kishan may have started his Southern film career with adult comedy Yaaruda Mahesh, but the actor says that he has resolved not to venture into such genres anymore — despite it being the order of the day in Tamil cinema and even though he has been approached for a sequel to the film.

Having completed 25 films in Telugu and Tamil, the actor-turned-producer is currently busy with the Tollywood version of his Tamil supernatural thriller, Kannadi.

“Kannadi has a genre defining theme. Every 20 minutes, the genre changes and director Caarthik Raju’s unique narrative and screenplay will be talked about for sure,” he says, without divulging too much about the story.

“Anya Singh and I play a just married couple who meet with an accident. And when I go and look at myself in the mirror, I see a different person (Karunakaran) in it. The story begins in 2043 and goes into flashback mode to the present,” he reveals, adding, “The director has given a novel dimension to this genre, steering away from clichés associated with a horror film. Hence, I took a call to bankroll it in Tollywood under my home banner. After watching it, if anyone says that Kannadi is a ghost movie, I will quit films!”

As for turning down adult movies, he asserts, “When I heard the script of Yaaruda Mahesh, which was the first Tamil adult comedy, I thought it was going to be on the lines of American Pie. But what finally came to the theaters was something different. So my experiences have taught me not to venture into such genres again, even though they are an easy money making proposition. Today, my journey is different and I only want to be a part of good films.”
