Hero roles pouring in for Yogi Babu

Yogi Babu is the toast of K'town and every actor and filmmaker wanting him to be part of his or her film.

Comedians turning heroes at the peak of their careers is not new to Tamil cinema. Such switching brings its own share of challenges as one wrong move can jeopardise their careers. The cases of Vadivelu and Santhanam are examples of this, with the former now virtually out of circulation and Santhanam having very few films on hand.

Yogi Babu is the toast of K’town and every actor and filmmaker wanting him to be part of his or her film. He took the hero avatar in the under-production film Ghurka. The humourist has now been roped in for yet another film titled Dharmaparbhu where he portrays the hero. A fantasy comic caper set in fictional ‘Yamalokam’, Yogi plays the lead protagonist vying for the post of Yama Dharmaraja with yet another comedian Karunakaran playing Chitragupta.

The story goes like this. When the term of Lord Yama ends in Yamalokam, it’s time to elect the next Yama. Here begins a huge tug of war between the family heir essayed by Yogi Babu and Chithraguptan. What follows is a series of hilarious situations.

Interestingly, Muthukumaran, whose debut directorial Kanni Rasi featuring Vemal and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar is yet to hit the marquee, has been roped in to wield the megaphone.

The film will be shot extensively in grand sets with art director CS Balachandran working on exclusive designs along with his team. Mahesh Muthuswamy is handling cinematography with Justin Prabhakaran composing the music. Produced by P. Ranganathan, the movie is shot in Chennai and songs are being planned in locations abroad. Composer Anirudh revealed the first look of the film on Friday.
