Handling Bigg Boss and Kamal
Three film-old director Madhumitha is on cloud nine. While it is a dream for every filmmaker to direct Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan at least once in their film career, young Madhu got the opportunity to work with the legendary star, who is in the limelight for his political remarks, for months recently! Madhu was the creative director for all the weekend episodes of Bigg Boss with Kamal Haasan at the hot seat.
Having spent quality time with the Nayagan star, she says, “Interacting with Kamal sir was exhilarating. If you look at the Hindi or Telugu Bigg Boss, each zone was different from one another. Salman Khan will appear only on one day and he would dance, call a guest and talk to him etc. But, here it was for two days — Saturday and Sunday — which was more challenging to formulate and edit. We would have many discussions as to what the highlight of the week should be, which ideas could be incorporated, planning the questions and much more. We never had a bound script.” What about the political comments Kamal made during his long stint there, we ask? “Those were extempore and despite all our discussions, Kamal sir adds his own inputs and gives a distinctive touch to every episode,” Madhu quips.
On the film front, she is all set to come out with her next, titled KD. “The film deals with the controversial subject of Thalaikootthal, a ritual that is still followed in the interior villages of Tamil Nadu. Thalaikoothal is a traditional practice of senicide by their own family members. The elderly person is given an oil-bath early in the morning and subsequently made to drink glasses of tender coconut water which results in renal failure, high fever, fits, and death within a day or two,” she explains, adding, “My protagonist is an 80-year-old man named Karuppa Durai (KD). It is not a dark film and I have made it fun-filled and commercial. How KD runs away from the ritual and what happens after forms the crux. Saregama produces the movie.”
