Motivational speaker turns actor-filmmaker
Popular motivational speaker and novelist AL Suriya gearing up with his first directorial and acting venture titled Anita Padma Brindha says his success in life after failed attempts was due to his meticulous following of his basic instincts. And he also claims that most of his dreams have come true.
Talking to DC he reveals that he dreamt of Shriya Saran acting as one of the three lead girls in his film and vouches that he would get her on board. Andrea and Poorna are his choice for the rest of the two costars.
Though Suriya graduated as a petroleum engineer, his passion for music and cinema drew him to tinsel town. “
I am certified in piano in 5th Grade in Trinity College of London. Learnt guitar from master Sandanandhan and took singing classes from vocalist Sasikiran and worked in a music school Carnatica for 5 years. Then I got modeling offers. In one of my assignments I met national award winner actress Padmapriya. Then, I did an album called Poonjolai, a collection of Bharathiyar songs in 2005. And in the music video of one the songs from the album Manayaal, I brought Padmapriya and it was aired on satellite channels.”
After working with few music composers, Surya turned independent with a film Moonram Paarvai, but the movie got jinxed. “Though success eluded me, I am not a person who gives up that easily. My experiences meeting different kinds of people shaped me into a different person and today I am motivational speaker and trainer (smiles).”
After writing a few books on motivational subjects, Surya penned the novel Anita Padma Brindha. “The film’s protagonist is an aspiring filmmaker. It talks about his endless struggles and how guided by his instincts, he finally achieves it forms the rest. In the process he meets three girls from different walks of life. It’s a futuristic film with fantasy elements.”
He goes on to add, “Six years back I was an ordinary person. But I used to dream a lot and what I saw in dreams have been fulfilled in my life. I have these basic instincts, which tells me what will happen in the near future. Why I am saying this is because, I saw Shriya ma’am sharing screen space with me. So, I am confident, it will happen.”
Besides playing the lead, Surya does the story, screenplay, dialogues, direction, music and lyrics.
