In Mudhalvan 2 Vijay as CM?

Director Shankar’s first choice Thalapathy Vijay seems all set to play Chief Minister in the sequel of blockbuster film Mudhalvan.

The big buzz in Kollywood is that Thalapathy Vijay will be seen as a Chief Minister in his next film. Sources reveal that Shankar, the showman of Tamil cinema, recently met Vijay to discuss a possible collaboration for the sequel of his blockbuster flick Mudhalvan, and that the latter also reportedly evinced interest in the same.

It is a known secret that Vijay was Shankar’s first choice for Mudhalvan, a political action thriller released in 1999, which was about a common man - a journalist who accepts the challenge to act as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for a day. However, for some reason, Vijay could not take up the offer then and it subsequently went to ‘Action King’ Arjun.

Sources say that Vijay and Shankar have been in touch ever since they teamed up for Nanban (the Tamil remake of 3 Idiots) and that they will certainly join hands again. Even during the promo meet of 2.O, Shankar indicated that he would prefer Vijay as the lead protagonist if he ever made a sequel to Mudhalvan.

Given its enormity, Mudhalvan 2 is indeed something that would excite every fan of this movie. And fans of Thalapathy Vijay are already in a jubilant mood at the prospect of seeing their matinee idol as a Chief Minister on screen.

Meanwhile, like Kamal Haasan, who has already turned into a politician and Rajinikanth, who is yet to jump into the political arena, Vijay appears to be the next actor nursing political aspirations.

In fact, his speech at the audio launch of his controversial movie Sarkar hinted at the possibility of entering politics. Reacting to a query over what he would change in the state if he ever became CM, Vijay replied, “Hope it’s an imaginary question! I will ‘not’ act if I become a Chief Minister in real life. Secondly, my foremost concern is to form a corruption-free government, which I know is very difficult to achieve.”

However, with Shankar’s much-hyped Indian 2 with Kamal Haasan still under production, there’s no update on the sequel yet. On his part, Vijay is busy shooting for his forthcoming flick Bigil and will start his next with Lokesh Kanakaraj of Maanagaram fame soon.
