I want to be part of content driven subjects: Arulnithi

In his career spanning 11 films, most of Arulnithi’s hit movies were thrillers, a genre in which he seems to be comfortable.

“After my earlier movie Mouna Guru not only turned out to be a blockbuster but also set a benchmark in the genre, my responsibilities towards choosing a script became huge. People come to my films with the expectation of a good story rather than mass masala flicks. So, if I select quality films rather than one which propels a macho hero, I feel the rest will fall in place,” says an unassuming Arulnithi Tamilarasan, while chatting about his upcoming film K-13, a thriller where he is said to essay a two-dimensional role.

In his career spanning 11 films, most of Arulnithi’s hit movies were thrillers, a genre in which he seems to be comfortable. When he decided to shift to a fresh genre, Bharat Neelakandan approached him with K-13. “In the 15th minute of Bharat’s narration, something happens to a character in the film. This gave a jolt and shock. I could not resist hearing the rest of the story. It was something unpredictable and finally I had no choice but to say ‘yes’ to it. I liked his confidence. But this is not a routine ‘whodunit’ actioner! K-13 differs!”Arulnithi says.

On the title, he says that the flick cannot have a better one than this. “It is very relevant to the script. The entire proceedings unfold at a flat with 13 as its door number which is situated in K Block of a residential complex.”

Talking about the character he plays he said, “I essay an assistant director waiting for his break. His struggles, pain, and what he goes through in meeting producers form the rest. It is a very intriguing role.”

Heaping praises on co-star Shraddha, he said, “I was moody most of the time during the shoot as I was sucked into the character that I portrayed and wouldn’t interact much with others. However, Shraddha is a very positive person and appreciates everyone’s work including me. In the movie she is a writer.”

The Irvakku Aayiram Kangal star says that things work well when he collaborates with new filmmakers. “When people come to me to narrate scripts, I don’t see what they did in the past, although it is also essential. Somewhere, my gut feeling would tell me to go ahead! And it has proved in films like Demonte Colony and IAK .”

The young actor is open to multi-starrers and hence he is on board with Jiiva for a movie bankrolled by the latter’s ace banner SuperGood Films. “It has an interesting subject on Kabbadi. Rajashekar directs the film. Jiiva and I play close friends and Kabaddi players. We were given training on the sports by some of director’s friends who are players from Karaikkaal. It was fun working in the film. Looking forward to the movie. There’s yet another movie in Seenu Ramasamy sir’s direction, which might be a multi-starrer.”
