Actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar has been raising her voice of late for various social causes. She also took a short trip to Thoothukudi to support the people in the ‘Ban Sterilite’ where she had a fan moment with actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan when he landed there on Sunday to show his solidarity with the protesters.
The Makkal Neethi Maiyam party president Kamal also visited Thoothukudi on Sunday and not only staunchly opposed the proposed expansion of the Sterlite plant but also sought its total closure. Before leaving town, ‘Ulganayagan’ met Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and even posed for a picture with her. It is learnt they had a quick chat as well.
An excited Varu took to her twitter handle to post the picture and wrote, “”Now this is what you call a surprise..thank you sir had an amazing conversation with you @ikamalhaasan perfect way to end my trip... thank u #Tuticorin”.
Meanwhile, Varu’s dad actor and AISMK chief Sarathkumar was in Thoothukudi a few days back to support the ‘Ban Sterlite’ initiative and participated in the protest sitting along with people of the village. To show his support to the cause he also drank the polluted dirty water that has become contaminated due to the smelting of copper in the plant. He had also said, “I showed my discontent by drinking the polluted water used by people of Kumareddyapuram in Tuticorin.”
