STR essays a pilot named ‘Jameel’ in Maha

Now, much to the delight of STR\'s fans, the big news is that Simbu will be seen in a pivotal role, of almost 45-minute duration, in Maha.

Hansika's 50th milestone movie Maha, a female-centric offering, has been in the news ever since it was announced - most of all when its director UR Jameel pulled off a coup of sorts and got Hansu's ex-beau Silambarasan on board for an extended cameo. Now, much to the delight of STR's fans, the big news is that Simbu will be seen in a pivotal role, of almost 45-minute duration, in Maha.

When DC contacted Jameel, he did confirm the news. “Yes, even as we started the film, this particular character, which appears in the back story of Maha (Hansika) was there in the script. After STR loved the script and agreed to be a part of the film and we started filming, it assumed a lot of importance and we have had to extend it. Simbu essays a pilot and his character is inspired by a true incident that happened 30 years ago in the life of a real-life pilot who hails from Goa. We have tweaked a bit.”

Yet another striking alteration he has made is that Simbu's character has been rechristened as Jameel from the original Shoaib. “Oh no, not because it is my name, don't give rein to your imagination. Many said that Shoaib is a common name and Jameel is relatively unknown, and hence the change,” said the director.
