Challenging to play a Nyctophobiac: Castro

Arun Castro, a product of New York Film Academy and Indian School of Drama, is debuting in a Tamil film titled V1. The movie also marks the debut direction of actor Pawal Navageethan, known for fine performances in many of Vetri Maaran's films.

The story revolves around a cop played by Arun Castro who has been entrusted with the job of unravelling a complicated murder case that takes place at door no 'V1' of an apartment complex. But the twist is that he suffers from Nyctophobia (fear of darkness).

Says Arun, “I essay a forensic trainer and my cop angle will come only in flashback. He is a very confident person and a body language expert. He would easily identify the criminal in a group. That way I also prepared myself well for the role in terms of body language before getting into the act.”

On playing a nyctophobiac, he says, “I and Pawal did lot of research on the subject, as how people with such a condition would react in darkness. Met a few psychologists as well.”

Praising Pawal, he said, “The lead role is actually meant for a known actor. No one will cast a newcomer in it. It has lot of intricacies and dialogues. However, I thank Pawal for trusting me and giving this great opportunity. Of course, I gave auditions. I also improvised and gave inputs, but without any fuss he accepted them.” Vishnupria plays the female lead and she also essays acop.
