Having been in the industry for nearly three decades, Viji Chandrasekar wants to pick diverse roles. She is now a part of three films — Santhosh Thiagarajan’s Seemanin Seemaatti, Rajadurai’s Muthuramalingam and Priyan’s Kattam Potta Sattai (where she plays Lourde Marry).
Viji is upbeat about acting in Muthuramalingam. She says, “I play Velu Nachiyar, wife of Napolean and mother to Gautham Karthik in the film. Even though my scenes are limited, I will shine in the climax portions. Acting alongside Prabhu, Suman, Vivek, Rekha, Sukanya, Radha Ravi and Vivek was a reunion of sorts and we had a good time on the sets.”
The Aarohanam actress also essays the role of a woman who sells dry fish in Seemanin Seemaatti. “I couldn’t recognise myself in the film! I had to speak in Madurai slang and I am currently dubbing my portions for the flick,” she quips.
Viji is clear about what she wants in her career — “I don’t want to play the usual ‘mother roles’. My priority are roles that appeals to me. I am here because of passion. I don’t regret that I wasn’t a heroine and I didn’t miss anything. I was able to spend time with my family and still do quality roles,” she asserts.
