Film employees to go on indefinite strike
Chennai: Film employees are planning to go on an indefinite strike from Friday.
A decision was taken at an emergency general body meeting of Fefsi (Film Employees Federation of South India) that was held at their office in the city on Thursday, its president R.K. Selvamani said.
Fefsi and TFPC (Tamil Film Producers Council) were at loggerheads over the wages and other issues for the past two months and despite the intervention of TN Labour welfare Board, the tussle has not come to an end and got sorted out only temporarily.
TFPC stood by what they said that they are ready to work with whoever is willing to work with them from Fefsi, however any producer can hire a person from outside Fefsi at his own will.
Meanwhile, a recent advertisement from TFPC asking for talented youngsters who have experience in editing, cinematography, makeup, and costume designing who would be absorbed in their films if found suitable has seemingly irked the Fefsi, which has resulted in the declaration of an indefinite strike. “Unless they withdraw their advertisement, we will not revoke our strike”, said Selvamani.
He also revealed that they have asked permission to hold a protest meet, condemning TFPC’s act on September 5 at Valluvar Kottam.
A close source from TFPC stated that they are unfazed and stand by what they decided earlier. Some of the films which might get affected due this strike include Rajini’s Kaala, Suriya’s Thaana Serndha Koottam, Nayan starrer Imaikka Nodigal, SJ Suryah film Iravaakalam among other small flicks.
