The production team of recently released movie 'Jaat' has released an official statement addressing christian community about a movie scene that was considered insensitive towards the religion.
In the statement, makers confirmed the emission of controversial scenes and apologised for it.
The Mythri Movie Makers took to X and said, "To whomsoever it may concern, there has been a backlash for a specific scene in the film. The scene has been removed from the film with immediate effect. Our intention was not to hurt any religious sentiments. We deeply regret it and have taken quick action to delete the scene from the film. We sincerely apologise to everyone whose beliefs have been hurt."
The response came after a complaint was lodged against actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and Vineet Kumar Singh and director Gopichand Malineni, at Jalandhar's Sadar Police Station under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Vikalp Gold, the complainant from Pholriwal village claimed the movie offended the christian sentiments by depicting the inappropriate crucifixion scene that involved the Christian God, Jesus Christ.
This controversial scene in Jaat features Randeep Hooda who plays the antagonist in the movie. In the scene his character stands beneath the crucifix, in a church. With his arms stretched out, his pose bears resemblance with the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
In the scene the frightened worshippers stand in silence as his presence evokes a godly persona.
The christian community further got offended by the combining religious symbolism with violent scenes. One such controversial scene is during a prayer session where Randeep's character declares that he is sent by Jesus Christ shortly before firing inside the church.
The sacred objects stained with blood and glasses shattered cause anguish among the viewers as they consider it as sacrilege of their holy place.
According to protestors, such scenes and a dialogue in the trailers of the movie can ignite anti-christian sentiments. They have regarded them as extremely offensive.
Days after the movie's release, christian community leaders raised questions over the timing of the film's release date, just after Good Friday.
The movie Jaat was released on 10th April, starring Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda in lead roles.
