IT: Welcome to Derry Planned as Three-Season Series

As Muschietti has stated, the first season will plant the atmospheric seed and the continuing evil that recurs in Derry; future seasons would drift further back in time

The new HBO series IT: Welcome to Derry is turning out to be an ambitious multi-season expansion of the Stephen King universe. Filmmaker Andy Muschietti recently confirmed to CinePOP that there is a three-season arc mapped out for the show, which will allow them to go deep into the haunted history of the town of Derry and its origins regarding the most terrifying resident, Pennywise.

As Muschietti has stated, the first season will plant the atmospheric seed and the continuing evil that recurs in Derry; future seasons would drift further back in time. Season two can go back to as far as 1935, while season three could go forward to 1908. These timelines are significant in tracing what happens within the cycle of the horrors in the town and details on the mysterious beginning of Pennywise.

Bill Skarsgård will once again get to indulge in the terrifying role of the shape-shifting clown Pennywise and his human alter ego, Bob Gray. Early promotional material continues to receive praise for the layered, unsettling performance given by Skarsgård, with fans noting the added psychological depth not allowed by the film adaptations. His return has been a big draw for an audience anxiously waiting for the series

The season finale has also raised a buzz. Audiences and critics alike have praised high-stakes confrontations, cleverly placed Easter eggs, and greater cosmic horror in service of Stephen King's mythos. Fan reactions on social media have been generally positive, indicating strong engagement among longtime fans of the series.

Adding to the excitement, IT: Welcome to Derry reportedly reached an amazing 9.8 out of 10 on IMDb, which has obviously served as an early signal that this series is bound to gain considerable acclaim and high expectations. With a clear long-term vision and a commitment to deep storytelling, this series might well be on its way to becoming a milestone horror television event.
