2026 is going to be an exciting year at cinema, with a wide range of movies that are being exclusively offered to devour on the big screens with many sequels and franchises marking their presence along with plenty of auteur driven projects that are likely going to be ready to break the box office records.
WUTHERING HEIGHTS (Releasing on 13th February)
Director: Emerald Fennel
This is the newest adaptation of the famed Emily Bronte’s novel, directed by Emerald Fennel, who is going to take a very steep turn with the 1847 material, re imagining the surreal and gothic tale of Catherine and Heathcliff through her nightmarish prespective by using Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi in the lead roles, the breathtaking cinematography by Linus sandgren who shot it on Vista Vision which is a perfect film to watch on the Valentine’s Day.
THE BRIDE (Releasing on 6th March)
Director: Maggie Gyllenhaal
After wearing the directorial hat on her critically acclaimed film The Lost daughter, Maggie gyllenhaal returns to the big screen of showcasing her stylish take on the classic Frankenstein tale, inspired by the Mary Shelley novel , the 1935 film The Bride of Frankenstein, and many noir films from the 30’s, it features hamnet fame Jesse buckley paired along with the dark knight star Christian bale who’s returned to the big screen after nearly a gap of 4 years in the lead roles as The Monster and Bride. This is a gothic crime film set in the 1930’s Chicago, and is also rumored to feature a surprise appearance by her brother Jake gyllenhaal.
PROJECT HAIL MARY (Releasing on 20th March)
Directors: Phil Lord & Christopher Miller
This is the film adaptation of Andy Weir’s novel of the same name, whose work ‘The Martian’ was one of the best science fiction films ever made. This new film is a sci-fi epic that stars Ryan gosling as an amnesiac science teacher who wakes up on a spacestation to remember that he must save the planet. This film is directing duo phil lord and Christopher miller’s (the lego movie fame) newest work after a gap of 12 years.
MICHAEL (Releasing on 24th April)
Director: Antonie Fuqua
Fans of Michael Jackson have always anticpiated for a biopic of their own legend after seeing many adaptations being made on countless other singers. And Antoine Fuqua is helming this project which was believed to be delayed after hitting many roadblocks during it’s production. The film is set to star Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson playing the lead role as the singer which follows the life of Michael Jackson and his rise to fame. The Longtime fans around the world are in treat for a euphoria of Music on april 24th.
MANDALORIAN AND GROGU (Releasing on 22nd May)
Director: Jon Favreau
Wait?, Mandalorian is a television series right?. Ofcourse, and this upcoming film is the continuation of the same Disney+ television series but to be devoured on the silver screen by director Jon Favreau by teaming up once again with Dave Filoni on another exciting adventure adding Signorney weaver to it’s cast, and it follows her character ordering Din Djarin or the mandalorian (played by pedro pascal) along with Grogu or baby yoda on a mission to the outer rim after the fall of the imperial warlords.
DISCLOSURE DAY (Releasing on 12th June)
Director: Steven Spielberg
After E.T , the close encounters of the third kind and war of the worlds, spielberg is set to return back to the Science fiction UFO genre with Disclosure Day, which starring Emily blunt, Josh O’connor and colin firth in the lead roles, whose plot seems to hint that it follows a meteorologist and a whistleblower who race against the time in exposing a huge secret. This film is a must on your summer watchlist.
THE ODYSSEY (Releasing on 17th July)
Director: Christopher Nolan
Thinking about Christopher Nolan’s tackling of the classic Homer’s poem in itself is really fascinating as Nolan is used to depict complex science fiction stories but not a subject matter that is period epic action films. This film is the first to be shot entirely on IMAX film featuring in the 1.43 aspect ratio for the entirety of it’s duration. The Film Stars Matt damon in the titular role of Odysseyus who must journey home to his wife after the Trojan war, and faces many battles amidst his traverse.
SPIDER MAN: BRAND NEW DAY (Releasing on 31st July)
Director: Destin Daniel Cretton
After an underwhelming reception at the box office last year, this film, the fourth in the MCU spider man series, is set to surpass the charts. 2026 is going to be historical in Tom holland’s career as this film along with The odyssey are set to release in the same month just between a gap of 2 weeks. The Plot of the film is yet to be announced, and stars Zendaya, Sadie sink, mark ruffalo, etc.
DIGGER ( Releasing on 8th October)
Director: Alejandro Gonzalez Inarittu
This film teams up the auteur Gonzalez Inarittu who’s known to make films featuring satire, black comedy and absurdist elements with the star Tom cruise in a very dramatic role, which is a shocking departure from his usual Mission impossible type action films. The Film was recently hyped up with just a single first look type of teaser where Cruise is featured in a gritty prosthetic look, resembling to his previously played comedic characters like Les Grossman. Cruise is aiming for an Oscar, and is ready to make us laugh and scream through this film which follows the most powerful man in the world who embarks on a mission to prove that he’s a saviors.
SOCIAL RECKONING (Releasing on 9th October)
Director: Aaron Sorkin
We are getting a sequel to david fincher’s the social network but it is not going to be directed by him. This film is instead written and directed by aaron sorkin, the writer of the first film who also won an academy award for it, and features “Anora” fame Mikey madison in the lead role along with “succesion” star Jeremy strong replacing Jesse eisenberg in the role of mark zuckerberg. The film is adapted from a book titled “Broken code” by Jeff horowitz and focuses on the events surrounding 2021 Facebook papers leak.
DUNE: PART THREE (Releasing on 18th December)
Director: Denis Villeneuve
Timothee chalamet who is predicted to win the academy award this year, is gonna return as Paul atreides in the third part of the series continuing the events from the second film. Director denis villeneuve has stated that he wished to adapt dune: messiah for the third part which follows atriedes who has now become the the Padishah emperor of the universe, and his tragic fall. Robert pattinson whose role is not yet revealed is eyed to play the antagonist.
AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY (Releasing on 18th December)
Directors: Russo Brothers
Two of the biggest franchises have decided to clash the release dates of their movies on the same day. And this might sound like it leads to another “Barbenheimer” type of situation, where the audiences are forced to watch two of the blockbusters on the same day as it happened on July 21st, 2023. This movie has already generated it’s much awaited hype through a unique combination of releasing four different trailers. Avengers doomsday is also stacked well with it’cast with many superheroes reprising back to the screen that includes chis hemsworth as thor, Chris evans as Captain America, and Robert downey Jr not in the role of iron man, but instead as a new character Doctor doom with hinting shades of antagonism.
