Mumbai: Joaquin Phoenix starrer Joker has gained cult status by cementing its position as highest R rated highest grosser. While the film is still minting money at the box office, the DC comics movie is in the news for shocking reasons. In the recent turn of events, a rather unusual incident occurred at a local theatre in Paris.
During the screening of the film, an anonymous man randomly shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’, leading to a chaotic situation. This happened at a 9.30 pm show at Grand Rex theatre. Masses could only watch the first half of the movie.
According to a report stated in Le Parisien, the man kept saying, ’It’s political’. People told him to keep his mouth shut but he abruptly stood on the chair and shouted, ‘Allahu akbar!’ His words caused chaos as the masses started running towards the exit. There were rumours that the man was carrying a gun.
Allahu Akbar is a term used for telling ‘God is great’. Sadly, it has been associated with Islamophobia. Apparently, the man was caught by the security guards, as he tried to exit.
Cops at Paris stopped him and took him into custody. The 34- year-old man was reportedly not carrying any arms or ammunitions. People at the Grand Rex cinema were evacuated and the place was thoroughly checked for bombs; nothing was found. The man was later left after giving a psychiatric examination.
According to further reports in Le Parisien, a spokesperson from the cinema hall said that the man was working with a partner in crime and was trying to create chaos in order to deviate people’s attention and commit robbery.
