Chris Hemsworth announced his support for the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota and South Dakota in the United States amid the Dakota Access Pipeline protests. The Pipeline threatens the only water supply for the Reservation. The Thor actor also apologised on Instagram for dressing up as a Native American during a New Year party last year. His co-star Mark Ruffalo supported him.
“Standing with those who are fighting to protect their sacred land and water. Last New Year’s Eve I wore the traditional dress of First Nations people. I was unaware of the offence this may have caused and the sensitivity around this issue. I sincerely apologise for this thoughtless action. There is a great need for a understanding of the issues facing indigenous communities,” Hemsworth wrote.
