After Dallas Buyer's Club, Matthew McConaughey again plays with body weight for role

The acclaimed actor had won his maiden Academy Award for his performance in 'Dallas Buyer's Club'.

Mumbai: After winning an Oscar for playing a real-life AIDS patient, Ron Woodroof, in ‘Dallas Buyers Club,’ Matthew McConaughey has once again undergone a drastic physical transformation to portray a prospector in his new movie ‘Gold’.

Directed by Stephen Gaghan, ‘Gold,’ tells the story of Kenny Wells, a prospector desperate for a lucky break, teams up with a similarly eager geologist and sets off on a journey to find gold in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia.

To fully inhabit the role, the 47-year-old star ate a lot in order to gain weight to do justice with his character's look in the movie, reported Contactmusic.

"I had been putting on some weight. We had a fat suit, and over the weeks of trying to make it work, I really started to put on the weight. So we were like, let's ditch the fat suit and go with what God gave us," he said.

The actor then decided to simply say ‘yes’ to eat for the next six months.

"My favourite food is cheeseburgers. So, I was eating cheeseburgers all the time. I was making cheeseburgers. I was trying out all these fast food restaurants that I've never had.

Not that much sweets; cheeseburgers and beer will do the trick!"

With all of the pizza nights and unusual breakfasts, McConaughey's three children began to call him ‘Captain Fun’.

"It's hard to keep up that pace. For six months going hard was a lot of fun. But if I was still doing that, I might have some structural damage," McConaughey said.
