Shawn Mendes was worried a clip of him and Taylor Swift would add oxygen to longstanding, false rumours he’s gay. The 20-year-old singer opened up on the misconceptions regarding his sexuality in an interview with RollingStone.com.
Earlier this year, when Shawn joined Taylor on her Reputation Tour, she posted a video of herself putting glittery makeup on his face while backstage. Taylor then texted Shawn to make sure she had permission to share the clip, and he agreed.

Reads the article, “Swift was texting Mendes, just to make sure he was cool with her posting it. He told her it was fine without thinking, but later that night, he woke up in a cold sweat.” Once the video was posted, Shawn had some regrets. “I felt sick,” he said, addressing those gay rumours. “I was like, ‘F–k, why did I let her post that?’ I just fed the fire that I’m terrified of.” Shawn added, though, that he played with makeup as a kid, and he grew up with 15 female cousins, “braiding hair and painting nails. Maybe I am a little more feminine — but that’s the way it is.”
