Oscars: Who do you think will win?

Celebs tell us about their picks and there's no prizes for guessing the top favourite.

Hollywood’s biggest awards night is nearly upon us. And in the running for one of world’s cinema’s highest honours is a delightful mix of acting talent, scripts, cast and Leonardo DiCaprio.

In fact, this year, experts feel this will be “DiCaprio’s year” — after a record six nominations — The Revenant included. And in the Best Picture category, the real fight is between Spotlight, Wall Street comedy-drama The Big Short and the very rare Canadian-British-Irish drama, Room.

Meanwhile, celebrities back home in India have already given us their favourites. Ahead of the India telecast on Monday, here are the actors and films they are rooting for:

Sonu Sood: I think Leonardo DiCaprio deserves the Oscar for The Revenant. He was brilliant as always. The movie takes you on an absolute trip. Plus, I’m a little biased towards him as he has had several nominations. This time, I am hoping he gets it!

Jacqueline Fernandez: I’m rooting for Room to win for Best Picture and Best Actress. Brie Larson was simply stunning, as was Jacob Tremblay. They truly deserve the award.

Eddie Redmayne: Best actor nomination for The Danish GirlEddie Redmayne: Best actor nomination for The Danish Girl

Vivek Agnihotri, director: The Revenant gets my vote for Best Picture, because it is a complete film — in terms of writing, direction and cinematography. There are some films in which the canvas forms the narrative, but here both the performances and the narrative are just equally gripping. Alejandro González Iñárritu is a master storyteller.

Divya Kumar Khosla, director: The Revenant should be awarded the Best Film and Leonardo Di Caprio, the Best Actor award — one feels the pain of the characters in this movie. The narrative is immersing and this is undoubtedly one of Leonardo’s best performances. It’s an outstanding story, superbly told.

Esha Gupta, actress: Leonardo DiCaprio should definitely win it this year. Eddie Redmayne has also portrayed himself so perfectly in The Danish Girl. It’s subtle, it’s beautiful, and it’s touching. And I think everyone felt the vulnerability with which he played his character, Einar.

Purab Kohli, actor: I’ve only watched The Revenant so far and it’s
definitely going to win. Leonardo DiCaprio is brilliant and stands a strong chance. But I heard Eddie Redmayne has been fantastic in The Danish Girl too. Room is another film my friends have been talking a lot about.

Ali Fazal, actor: For Best Actress, Cate Blanchett in Carol seems to be the favourite this season. But I am rooting for Jennifer Lawrence in Joy. For Best Director, Alejandro González Iñárritu for The Revenant. He showed us something magnificent with Birdman and now a totally a different film and vision in The Revenant.

Patralekha, actress: Spotlight is a brilliant film and every department was perfect. It also showed how good journalism can bring about real change. Also, I think both Leonardo DiCaprio and Eddie Redmayne were absolute perfectionists in their roles in The Revenant and The Danish Girl and I hope one of them takes away the top award. Brie Larson’s performance in Room was also rare and she deserves the Best Actress honour .
