After news that Amber Heard decided to donate her settlement amount of $7 million to charity broke out, Depp’s representative announced in a statement that he decided to cut out the middleman and donate the money to the charities himself, and that has irked Heard. According to TMZ.com, the actress and her team fired back at Depp and said that if he was really concerned about donating the settlement amount to charity, he would double the amount and make it $14 million.
Heard and her team stated that Depp was not being open about his move to donate the amount to charity. The team added that if Depp did send the money to charity to the two organisations, he won’t be paying $7 million because then, he will get a charitable tax deduction. “If Johnny wishes to change the settlement agreement, we must insist that he honour the full amount by donating $14M to charity, which after accounting for his tax deduction, is equal to his $7M payment obligation to Amber. We would also insist that the full amount be paid immediately and not drawn out over many years,” Heard’s team was quoted by TMZ.com.
