Taylor Swift turns songwriter
Taylor Swift will not only act in the upcoming remake of Cats but also write a song for it with the 71-year-old legend Andrew Lloyd Webber.
The song, Beautiful Ghosts, will be written specifically for Francesca Hayward’s character, Victoria, says People.
Taylor and Andrew Lloyd discussed the process behind writing the song in a featurette released by Universal Pictures on October 24.
In a short clip before footage of the pair working together was shown, Taylor excitedly revealed about recording the song the duo had written. Webber said, “When I first read the screenplay — and the film is seen through Victoria’s eyes — the first thing I said was, ‘We have to have a song for Victoria. It’s an incredibly important central part of the whole film.’”
Taylor also revealed that much of her inspiration came from T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, on which the text of the original 1998-film was based.
Cats will debut in theatres on December 20.
