In a recent interview with Glamour UK, Elizabeth Banks, who is known for her roles in movies such as, Hunger Games series, The Lego Movie and Pitch Perfect, revealed that she had auditioned for the role of Mary Jane in the original Spider-Man franchise, where Tobey Maguire played the superhero.

Elizabeth told the magazine, “I was told I was too old to play her. Tobey and I are basically the same age (at the time, she was 28 while Tobey was 27). I was like, ‘Oh, okay, that’s what I’ve signed up for’,” reported Vanity Fair. The role was ultimately played by Kirsten Dunst, who was 18 years old back then. Elizabeth also revealed that her “consolation prize” for being too old was receiving the role of the newspaper secretary Betty Brant in the same movie, reports JustJared.com.
