This year’s BET Awards saw Mary J. Blige honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her continued contributions to the entertainment world.
The actress was introduced by youth icon and singer Rihanna, “On behalf of all the women who came after you, like myself, thank you for being you so we could feel comfortable being ourselves.”

She thanked BET, her family and her friends. “When you have a lifetime of achievements, there’s no way you could have done it alone.” Addressing her fans, she said, “Thank you for weathering these storms with me and rejoicing with me when I have a victory.”
The 48-year-old legend spoke of her continued hard work while thanking those around her for their continued support. “I’m a servant as well and I’m here to serve.”
The American singer, songwriter and actress has earned eight multi-platinum albums and sold more than 50 million albums.
