Historical win for Billy Porter

It’s the season for winning and it’s Billy Porter who has won now.

It’s the season for winning and it’s Billy Porter who has won now. The actor won his first Emmy for his role as “Pray Tell” in FX’s Pose, making history as the first openly gay African–American man to be nominated or to win in the Lead Actor in a Drama Series category at the Emmys.

Then, in his acceptance speech, Billy, as per Eonline, quoted James Baldwin, “It took many years of vomiting up the filth I was taught about myself and halfway believed before I could walk around this Earth like I had a right to be here. I have the right. You have the right. We all have the right!”

Billy then paid tribute to his mother, sister, husband Adam Porter Smith and the Pose cast, among many others. “You saw me, you believed in us. Thank you, thank you, thank you,” he said during the speech. This was Billy’s first nomination for a show that earned six nominations this year.
