A woman in Spain died due to an allergic reaction she developed while undergoing live bee acupuncture, an alternative therapy promoted by Gwyneth Paltrow in which the patient is stung by the angered insects.
According to Telegraph.co.uk, she “developed wheezing, dyspnea, and sudden loss of consciousness immediately after a live bee sting”. She died some weeks later of multiple organ failure. She had suffered a “massive watershed stroke and permanent coma” due to severe anaphylactic shock.
The treatment, which has been popularised in recent years by celebrities such as Paltrow, who founded the alternative lifestyle website Goop, was given to the woman at an unidentified clinic.
