Robert Downey Jr talks Civil War to us!

What can you expect from the much- awaited Captain America: Civil War? Hear it from the Iron Man himself. Over to Robert Downey Jr.!

Marvel seems to have come up with a winning idea this time, pitting two superpowers Steve Rogers and Tony Stark against each other in Captain America: Civil War. The Anthony and Joe Russo-directed fare will see Robert Downey Jr. don the Iron Man suit for the fourth time. In an interview Robert talks about his film, give us an insight into his character, his directors and more.

What got you excited about doing this movie?
The Avengers movies were always these colossal, ambitious things but to me Civil War was the smart, sexy, Marvel idea. You don’t want to see these two characters create a tear in the fabric of their relationship because you know how pervasive it can be. So it gives you a fair amount of shatter to play with. I’ve always liked the idea of how do you recover from that.

Can you tell us about any new suit upgrades?
A little bit of new tech that he has helps give them a fighting chance against Winter Soldier. Pretty much if you pick a character on Tony’s side or not, he’s had an influence. Joss Whedon gave us that entrée in the first Avengers and then it really picked up in Ultron, so now it’s understood. If anyone needs anything, Tony makes it.

What do you like about the Russos as directors?
There’s nothing I don’t like about them as directors. They are simpatico with the way that I like to influence things, so then I step back and follow their lead. It’s just this creative dance you want to have. The other thing is, it’s not like

Anthony’s just in charge of talent and Joe takes care of all the technical stuff. There’s a lot of alacrity and they’re both individually really versatile. They’re extremely open but they’re very set in what the theme and the narrative are going to be. But they are also flexible in how to get there.

What has been the most fun thing for you on this movie?
To me it’s just been a return to a sense of freedom and collaboration, which is what I joined this party for. It’s this massive industry now, but at the end of the day when it’s just me inhabiting the character of Tony Stark so that I can really sell it, I’m still having fun.

What do you think audiences will connect to in this movie?
People are going to be pleasantly surprised and intrigued by the journey of the choices that Cap makes and the fact that you stay with him.
