Immediately after the news about Snapchat CEO, Evan Spiegel’s alleged comment that he won’t expand Snapchat in India as it is poor, there was an online outrage by many Indians. Although, there is no proof whether the statement was made, Indians have taken offence, going so far as dragging the app’s five-star rating down to one-star within a matter of hours. However, it didn’t stop there. Many even started ruthlessly attacking Miranda Kerr, the fiancée of Evan Spiegel, on her social media accounts.
While some called her dumb as she is engaged to Evan Speigel, few Instagram users were sympathetic towards her for the same. “You should teach your bf how to be humble with other I would recommend you both should visit India 1st, (sic),” @singhrathorepadam commented on one of her pictures. Another user, @alisha____31 wrote, “A**h*** mind your language okay ? Indians are poor? Haha if we stop our exportations from India you stand no where okay? Tell your husband this shit! If we won’t send engineers from India you won’t be able to find app like snapchat. Such kind of allegations will not deteriorate our impression but your vulgarity will be displayed, (sic).”
However, a few sensible people tried to make others understand that this is not the way one shows nationalism. “What the hell is wrong with you guys? Stop abusing Miranda! She has got nothing to do with her fiance’s comment. Get a life, people. By doing so you're bringing down the image of your own country (sic),” wrote @kausambi. biswas.
