It’s been a whirlwind of a few weeks since Avengers: Infinity War hit theatres causing a massive wave of hysteria as it broke records earning $1 billion in just 11 days! This film has taken the world by storm with its tear-jerking scenes and action-filled sequences that have left us on the edge of our seats. Fans have expressed opinions about the story, the characters and scenes that didn’t make us feel so good. Due to the immense popularity and hype that the film has gained, new fans have stepped into chaotic waters of this growing fandom and are excited and in awe of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The loyal fans have stayed up for trailers, snippets, and waited for post-credit scenes, they are now prepping themselves for the next set of Marvel movies by rereading the comics or by watching endless YouTube videos of Phase 3 of the MCU including the highly-anticipated film, Captain Marvel starring Academy award-winner, Brie Larson.

Gauri Mullerpattan, a journalism student of Christ University, shares her excitement following the craze around the film. While she hasn’t been a great fan of the Marvel movies, Infinity War changed her attitude. She adds, “I regret not being a part of the fandom earlier, as Marvel really outdid themselves. I was never into superheroes but this movie changed my perspective.”

Srishti M, a BA student of Christ University is surprised at the hype around the movie, “I really want to see how this universe plays out as I was never a huge fan of such movies. I want to give both Marvel and DC a chance!”

On the other side of the scale, are Marvel fanatics who have followed each and every detail of the comics and movies. These have scrutinised Infinity War and even created wacky fan theories in the process. The film exceeded everyone’s expectations and shocked its viewers with its ending. This has led to numerous fans beginning an exhaustive research on the upcoming Marvel movies by bombarding comic book stores and reading every Marvel comic book, especially Captain Marvel as the directors have confirmed that she will play a very important role in the Untitled Avengers film.

Ritvik Rashid, an MA student felt, “They have introduced their first Omega level character, Thanos and they portrayed how powerful beings can get in the comic universe. I’m not sure how they’re going to pick up where ever they left off but I’m assuming the next set of movies will be prequels. I do my research on YouTube as there are many channels that provide in-depth knowledge about comics. Captain Marvel is quite a prominent character in the comics, and I guess this will be an original story to set the stage for her.”

Akrit Michael, a journalism student says, “I liked the movie as it didn’t follow the predicted and well-sung plot that Marvel ‘experts’ were chiming about in the run-up. Captain Marvel will be an unparalleled entity the likes of which has not yet been observed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I’m reading the comics and looking up fandom wikis to keep myself informed!”

With the Marvel Cinematic Universe expanding, it has opened doors to the possibilities which are endless, for an ultimate fan experience. Fans are now patiently awaiting the next film, and for Captain Marvel which will definitely be the biggest movies of 2019!
