Emma Watson has no diva claims
Emma Watson finds it bizarre when she is referred to as a diva or difficult if she spoke about the gender pay gap.
In order to focus on promoting her organisation HeForShe, which helps raise awareness of women’s right in the world, the Harry Potter star has taken a one-year sabbatical from acting.
An issue that has been stirred up quite a controversy in the last few months is the lack of equality in pay between men and women in Hollywood. Stars including Jennifer Lawrence openly slammed this trend.
Well aware that she will be criticised for raking up this issue, Waston insists she will still go ahead with her attempts to bring this issue to the forefront.
Talking to Britain’s Esquire magazine, she said, “We are not supposed to talk about money, because people will think you're ‘difficult’ or a ‘diva’. But there’s a willingness now to be like, ‘Fine. Call me a ‘diva’, call me a ‘feminazi’, call me ‘difficult,’ call me a ‘first world feminist’, call me whatever you want, it’s not going to stop me from trying to do the right thing and make sure that the right thing happens.”
She continued, “Because it doesn’t just affect me. Whether you are a woman on a tea plantation in Kenya, or a stockbroker on Wall Street, or a Hollywood actress, no one is being paid equally.”
