Ed Sheeran received (MBE) Member of the Order of the British Empire at Buckingham Palace. However, according to Standard.co.uk, the Shape Of You singer managed to breach royal protocol while receiving the honour on Thursday. Ed made an embarrassing gaffe during the investiture ceremony by touching Prince Charles on the arm instead of simply shaking his hand, breaking royal rules. But Ed insisted that he had a good conversation with the Prince of Wales. He posted a photo on Instagram and wrote, “Honoured to be awarded an MBE today at Buckingham Palace (sic).”
“He was asking me if I was still selling lots of records and I told him I’ve got a concert in New York tomorrow, and he was quite surprised I was flying after this. My grandfather was a massive royalist. He had all the commemorative plates and stiff, and he died on this day four years ago, so it's actually quite a nice full circle thing. I guess he’d be pretty proud (sic),” the pop star added.
Talking about how it’s not just talent that got him here, he said, “I think it’s persistence. I don’t have a vast amount of talent compared to other people. I think talent is like 30 per cent of it and persistence, drive and self-belief are the other ones, which I guess are all the same thing.”Meanwhile, the singer also revealed that he would like to sing at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.
